A little about me...

Through twists of fate (and extreme hard work and sacrifice by my parents), I was fortunate enough to live in many wonderful countries all over the world. I was immersed in other cultures at a young age; so young that they became mine, until we moved again. From growing up in ancient cities of  Asia and Europe, to my adult years spent in the natural splendor of the Adirondack Mountains or the American Southwest, I have been afforded rare opportunities to experience the art of many of the diverse cultures of the world.
To me, art is what lasts. It is what teaches us about our past, and it creates and shapes our future. Design is in everything, whether we acknowledge it or not; or we take part in it or not. I like to take part.
I was blessed to be able to travel Europe extensively as a young woman, experiencing the vibrant artistic history of Western civilization. During my most formative years, I studied art and art history, and barely anything else, at the American School in London, England. I knew early on that creating art was the only thing I was built for.
I returned to the United States to attend the Crouse College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University. During my studies, I became intrigued with many mediums, including ceramics, batik, metalsmithing and illustration. I earned a BFA in Sculpture.
I also met my husband there, and three years after graduation, we decided it was time for something new. We opened up a map of the United States and threw a dart, which landed in New Mexico. We sold everything. I sold all of my tools and supplies (by the way, never, EVER, do this), and the artwork I had collected and created during my time there to fund our journey. We loaded up our Chevy Cavalier with our two dogs and my ferret, two duffel bags and a radio, and drove across country, all the way to Albuquerque.
In New Mexico, the unique artistic culture and landscapes of the American Southwest gave me new inspiration.  I also pursued a new medium in the digital realm. I earned advanced certifications in Graphic Design for Print from the University of New Mexico CE program.
Currently, I work for a local print shop, where I have learned an integral facet of designing for print; the constraints and abilities of print production. From digital and offset printing, to silk screen design, embroidery, signage, and promotional items, I love the variety and challenges each project presents.  Getting to do complete design projects from concept to printed piece is something that I value. Understanding these processes had made me a better designer.
At home, I work on jewelry design and fabrication when I don't have any active freelance graphic design work in progress. I have also recently added fused glass work to my tool box.
My graphic design style is a clean look, however, I think it is important to be flexible to your clients tastes, desires and needs. Luckily, my day job allows me to practice this with a wide range of projects, such as, corporate stationery layouts, logo design, marketing pieces, forms, signage for established companies and fun t-shirt layouts for local Little Leagues, adult leagues and corporate events.
My freelance work allows me to go deeper into my craft, spend more time with my clients, and challenge myself with more intensive and focused design work.
